Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
